The 12th Türktay Symposium was held at Ankara Hilton SA on 19-20 October 2023. The main theme was “Waste; The Energy of Green Development in Turkey”.

The importance of waste in preventing the raw material and energy crisis was discussed at the symposium, and the message to all was that “Waste is just as valuable as gold when managed and brought back into the economy.”

In the final declaration; it was emphasized that:

• the effective management of waste is of critical and strategic nature for Türkiye,
• the waste management potential in the country should be taken into account while preparing macro-level policies in order for the Green Development move based on the Green Economy to be successful,
• it is essential to win the fight against climate change, to reduce emission rates, and to bring wastes into the economy and industry by managing them with a holistic approach,
• coordination between ministries and other public institutions should be strengthened.
